Lucknow: In a major step towards strengthening urban drinking water infrastructure, 33 drinking water projects have been approved under the AMRUT 2.0 scheme in Uttar Pradesh. The decision was taken during the 16th meeting of the State-Level High-Powered Steering Committee, chaired by Chief Secretary S.P. Goyal.
The approved projects have an estimated total cost of ₹1,861.72 crore and aim to ensure the supply of safe and clean drinking water to 2,87,801 urban households across the state.
Project-Wise Approval Details
Of the 33 approved projects,

- 5 projects fall under Tranche-1, with an estimated cost of ₹427.49 crore,
- 11 projects under Tranche-2, costing ₹623.29 crore, and
- 17 projects under Tranche-3, with an estimated cost of ₹810.93 crore.
Infrastructure Development to Benefit Urban Areas
Under these projects, new tube wells will be constructed, existing tube wells will undergo re-boring, and pre-constructed overhead tanks will be repaired. Additionally, water treatment plants, pump houses, and other essential infrastructure will be developed to strengthen urban water supply systems.
Key Projects Under Tranche-1
Major projects approved under Tranche-1 include drinking water saturation and augmentation schemes in Siyana Nagar Palika Parishad (Bulandshahr), Ramkola Nagar Panchayat (Kushinagar), and drinking water expansion projects in severely affected wards of Varanasi Municipal Corporation, including Hukulganj, Nai Basti, Durgakund, Naria, Sarai Nandan, Jolha North, and Bhelupur.
The Trans-Varuna Water Supply Scheme in the extended area of Varanasi Municipal Corporation and the Lamhi Zone (Phase-1, Part-B) project were also approved.
Focus on Urban Strengthening Under Tranche-2
Tranche-2 projects focus on drinking water restructuring, augmentation, and strengthening in urban local bodies across Varanasi, Etah, Pratapgarh, Mahoba, Muzaffarnagar, Agra, Saharanpur, and Gorakhpur. The Gorakhpur Municipal Corporation Drinking Water Reorganization Scheme (Phase-1) is among the major initiatives approved.

17 New Projects Under Tranche-3
Under Tranche-3, 17 new drinking water projects have been sanctioned for urban local bodies in districts including Banda, Chitrakoot, Jhansi, Hathras, Fatehpur, Siddharthnagar, Bahraich, Gonda, Prayagraj, Kasganj, Unnao, Mirzapur, and Barabanki, further strengthening drinking water supply in these regions.

Officials said that these projects will play a crucial role in ensuring the availability of safe and potable drinking water in urban areas, significantly improving public health and overall quality of life for residents.

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary, Urban Development, P. Guruprasad, Secretary, Urban Development, Anuj Kumar Jha, along with other senior officials of the Urban Development Department.
